The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship 2017 Update and Recipients
December 8, 2017
Thanks to the generosity of GSNH’s valued clients and friends, we are proud to announce that in connection with our 2017 golf tournament, GSNH was able to donate over $17,000 to The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship.
The Michael G. DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) at McMaster University is a world-leading centre of transdisciplinary infectious disease research in the fields of virology, immunology, bacterial pathogenesis and population biology and epidemiology.
Michael Hart, the late son of Goldman Sloan Nash & Haber’s Murray Hart, was a promising 2nd-year Masters student at McMaster University pursuing research in the area of antibiotic resistance when he died from cancer. The Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship has expanded over the years and is awarded to four students at an undergraduate, Masters, PhD, and staff level who each demonstrate academic excellence and leadership – the same enthusiasm for science as Michael.
The scholarship has established itself as one of the Institute’s most prestigious awards. Since this award’s establishment in 2012, the endowment has grown to over $150,000.
On Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the The 7th Annual IIDR Trainee Research Day the award was presented to the following students:
– Undergraduate – Daniel Celeste, Dr. Matthew Miller’s Lab
– MSc – Allison Guitor, Dr. Gerry Wright’s Lab
– PhD – Stephanie Jones, Dr. Marie Elliot’s Lab
– Staff – Laura Rossi, Dr. Mike Surette’s Lab
Congratulations to the recipients!
